Garowe, 21 September 2014 – The Media Association of Puntland (MAP), with the support of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) on 21 September held a March and ceremony to mark the International Day of Peace in the Puntland state capital, Garowe.
The ceremony has been held at the UNSOM compound under the UNSOM theme “What can you do for Peace?”
The commemorations began with a peace walk where participants started a march some 300 meters away from the UNSOM compound aimed at demonstrating the value of the peace.
Puntland Vice President HE Abdihakim Hajji Omar participated in the commemorations with a key speech delivered during the main event held at the UNSOM compound in Garowe. In an emotional address entitled “No peace, no life”, the VP called upon all the peoples of Puntland to work together for the maintenance of peace.
“We have to unite so as to strengthen the peace we have in Puntland” said the vice president of Puntland State, Somalia.
Meanwhile Omar Aboud,the head of the political office of the United Nations in Garowe welcomed the cooperation with the Media Association of Puntland in the commemorations of the International Day of Peace.
He reiterated the United Nations commitment to implement steps to the realization of everlasting peace in Puntland and the rest of Somalia.
“UNSOM stands in support and solidarity with Puntland in maintaining peace in Puntland State, Somalia” said Omar Aboud.
The chairman of the Media Association of Puntland (MAP) Mr. Feisal Khaliif Barre, praised the Puntland media for their role in the maintenance of peace in Puntland State, Somalia urging them to accelerate their peace building efforts.
“I praise the Puntland State media for the work they do every day and urge them to accelerate their efforts in regard to the motivation of activities strengthening peace and development” said the MAP chairman.
Finally, the commemorations were concluded in a calm spirit of happiness embowered in bliss.
