Garowe, Tuesday: A three- day workshop organized by the Media Association of Puntland (MAP) in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) on “Advanced media management” concludes on November 27, 2023 in the Garowe.
The goal of the workshop, which was attended by 25 chief editors and media executives, was to enhance the knowledge and leadership abilities of media managers in running their individual newsrooms as well as their practical skills for managing the media, particularly in times of hardship.
New paradigms and approaches to management and leadership are needed in light of the dramatic developments in technology and the media’s role in bringing these technologies together. Through this three-day course MAP aims to provide participants with an overview of some of the most recent ideas in management and leadership, particularly those that promote a renewed sense of social responsibility’’. Said Mohamed Dahir, MAP chair in his openning remarks
The course’s lectures, case studies, and role plays helped participants understand the ethical, regulatory, and practical responsibilities of media executives.
Importantly the course also examined future directions while also showing participants how to apply these ideas to a range of organizational, motivational, structural, competitive, and strategic issues in the media.
The training is sponsored by the NED-supported grant “Improving Access to Information and Media Capacity in Puntland” and comes under the MAP’s thematic focus of improving media professionalism.
