The Media Association of Puntland (MAP) in collaboration with Network 13 (Union of 24 Radios) based in Mogadishu held an event on promoting the role of media in Human Rights issues in Puntland capital, Garowe on 15th December 2014.
The meeting which attracted about forty participants invited from media houses, government representatives, Puntland Human Rights office and other dignitaries was focused on wide range of issues on Human rights and media’s role on promoting.
During his opening remarks, Puntland Human Rights defender Mohamed Yussuf highlighted violations against Human Rights, especially the attacks against the press in Somalia such as harassment, intimidation and unlawful arrests and detentions.
“This meeting paves the way for media houses to expose any Human Rights violations in Puntland”, Yussuf noted
This is the first time such an event on promoting media’s role on Human Rights issues in Puntland was held in Puntland state capital following the endorsement of Puntland Human Rights Defender on 27th Novemver 2014.
