CONDOLENCES: The media association of Puntland is deeply saddened by the news of Ahmed Mohamed ”Kismayo” passing on the August 9, 2017. Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed colleague. The late, Ahmed Mohamed ”Kismayo”, was a seasoned veteran journalist, media consultant, writer and the Author of the book ”Layliga Suxufiga” (2017).

Ahmed died on the August 9, 2017 in Hyderabad, India at the age of 53-years. He suffered vocal cord problems. The late leaves behind 2-wives and their beloved 15 children (8 girls and 7 boys).

In April of 2017, he underwent ”vocal cord surgery” in Kenya at the Nairobi hospital. Unfortunately post-surgery he reported bleeding problems at the Vocal surgical kit. The late then traveled back to Nairobi for a medical re-appointment and later was referred to India for further medical checkup including surgery in which he received a second vocal cord surgery.

On his professional career, the late joined Radio Mogadishu in 1987 until the fall of Siad Barre regime early 90s; he served 12 years as BBC correspondent for the Puntland region (2002-2013). In May 2013, Ahmed was named Director of the Puntland State TV. On August 4, 2014, Ahmed took the time off. On April 25, 2016, late Ahmed ”Kismayo” was elected head of the Independent Electoral Commission in Puntland, but resigned as of November 2016, due to his health conditions.

The MAP chair in his condolence said ‘‘ I learned with deep sorrow the death of the late Ahmed ”Kismayu’, a veteran journalist, a dear colleague , a very sincere and a role model to most of us. The chair continued ”He was a mentor to young journalists and a fountain of wisdom to his colleagues – I’m speechless, I pray to the Almighty ALLAH (SWT) to embrace the late with his Holy mercy and welcome him in His vast paradise among the righteous – may Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus” said Faisal Khalif!

MAP’s secretary general who joined the MAP chair sending a message of condolences said;
”I’m personally out of words over the loss of a great man and a mentor to many of us, I wish to express my deepest condolences to his family, especially those who worked close to him”, May Allah rest his Soul in eternal peace”, said Fatima Mohamed Mohamud

“Every soul shall have a taste of death and only on the Day of the Judgement shall you be paid your full recompense. Only those who are saved from the fire and admitted to Paradise (Jannah) will have attained the object (of life). For the life of this world is but good and chattels of deception.” (Qur’an Surah Imran; 3:185)

One of the most difficult times that we have to face is the devastating period we go through when someone very dear and precious is no longer with us. The feelings of bereavement and deprivation overcome us and we tend to go into a state of depression and grief. It is at this stage that we require the emotional support of close family and friends.
